Clarithromycin is a bacteriostatic, macrolide antibiotic, with action on intracellular and extracellular bacteria. It is indicated for the treatment of infections of the upper respiratory tract (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, otitis and sinusitis); lower respiratory tract infections (acute and chronic bronchitis, community pneumonia, typical and atypical); skin and soft tissue infections (erysipelas, folliculitis, cellulitis, impetigo, abscesses, boils); prevention of the spread of infection by the genus Mycobacterium in HIV-infected patients with CD4 counts
