CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY Amfepramone is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration and is extensively metabolized through a complex pathway of biotransformation involving N-dealkylation and reduction, many of their metabolites are biologically active and may participate in the therapeutic action of IFA Norex. Studies have reported that amfepramone and its metabolites can cross the blood brain barrier and placenta. Amfepramone and its metabolites are excreted primarily by renal excretion, has been reported that 75% of the dose was recovered in the urine within 24 hours after dosing, plasma half-life of its metabolites is estimated between 4 and 6 hours.
