TOBRADEX® Suspension and ophthalmic ointment are indicated in the treatment of infectious processes that occur with inflammation of the palpebral conjunctiva, bulbar, cornea, anterior segment of the eye, in chronic anterior uveitis, corneal damage and as a prophylactic in postoperative inflammation / infection. The main use of combination therapy is in inflammatory conditions in which there is a high risk of secondary infection (ocular trauma [including surgery] penetration of a foreign body or foreign substance, or chemical, radiation or thermal burn). Tobramycin is active against susceptible strains of Staphylococcus, including S. aureus, S. epidermidis (coagulase-positive and coagulase-negative), and penicillin-resistant strains, Streptococcus, including group A species (beta-hemolytic species), non-hemolytic species and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Tobramycin is also active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis, Haemophilus influenzae, and H. aegyptius, Moraxella lacunata, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus (Herellea vaginicola), and some Neisseria species. The alcohol component dexamethasone controls the inflammatory response.
